Take Your Wedding to the Stars With a Space Wedding

When it comes to getting married, every couple wants their special day to reflect their unique personalities and love story. As a result, we’ve seen some couples ditch the traditional wedding venue in favor of a more one-of-a-kind destination like beside a waterfall, in a rustic horse stable, or even on top of a mountain. But how cool would it be to take your nuptials out of this world and into the stars? That’s exactly what you can do if you book a space wedding.

It’s a trend that’s gaining popularity as people seek to customize their ceremonies beyond the confines of their local venues. We’ve also been seeing more couples marrying as an avatar (a kind of virtual version of themselves) in a metaverse, an immersive virtual world that doesn’t have any geographical boundaries. Some of these ceremonies are being simulcast to a cloud-based audience that can’t attend in person, while others are happening as an in-person event with a video link for guests who cannot make it to the ceremony site.

While it’s unclear how the metaverse will change the way we think of marriage, some companies are already embracing this emerging technology. The VR company Virbela, for instance, is developing plug-and-play assets that will let wedding planners create virtual spaces and add flowers, tables, dresses, and musical entertainment. And some in-person events are even incorporating Zoom and other technologies to allow for a more interactive experience that’s more inclusive for those who can’t be there, such as a bride who hired two videographers to capture the ceremony in real time and then simulcast it to her home audience.

A more traditional way to get married in space is offered by a Florida-based company called Space Perspective. They offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience that lets you tie the knot at the edge of space in what they call a “SpaceBalloon.” The ascent and descent of the balloon takes about six hours, which means you could have a full wedding with food and drink.

This isn’t as nerve-wracking as a full space flight, but it’s still enough to leave you with a truly unforgettable Instagram post. And while this kind of wedding might be out of the budget for most couples, it’s not impossible. Space Perspective offers packages starting at $160,000, and you can even add on extras like a private space walk, a video of your wedding in orbit, or even a selfie-friendly portrait session with the astronauts themselves.

If you’re interested in a space wedding, consider your needs and preferences first, and consult with a professional. They can provide insights into the pros and cons of each option based on your personal situation and help you find the perfect fit.
